Dear Friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the 850 staff
members, 3,000 volunteers and over 200,000 donors and tissue donor
families who are the lifeblood of Puget Sound Blood Center. To those of you
who donated your blood, time, financial resources and business acumen, on
behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you.
“Determination today leads to success tomorrow.”
- Bert Valdman
For the past 65 years Puget Sound Blood Center has provided safe, reliable
blood supply to the Puget Sound region and has sponsored ground-breaking
research leading to major advances in blood storage and the treatment of
hemophilia. We are very fortunate to have an organization of this caliber
in our community.
Outstanding organizations attract outstanding individuals. Puget Sound
Blood Center has a history of attracting some of the best minds in the fields
of transfusion medicine and hematology as well as a loyal volunteer and
donor base.
It was therefore with great anticipation (and admittedly some apprehension!)
that two years ago my fellow trustees and I, along with the Chief Executives
of two major local hospitals, formed a special committee and launched an
international search for a successor to Dr. Richard Counts who retired after
over three decades of service. I am pleased to announce that our search
yielded the hoped for result: Dr. Jim AuBuchon. Dr. AuBuchon is a leader
in the field of transfusion medicine with extensive management experience,
most recently with the Dartmouth Medical School and the Mary Hitchcock
Memorial Hospital. We could not be more delighted that Dr. AuBuchon
accepted our offer to assume the CEO role. Welcome, Jim!
Dr. AuBuchon’s stewardship, a highly skilled and dedicated staff, and an
exceptional community of volunteers assures the continuation of Puget
Sound Blood Center’s outstanding service and research innovation for many
years to come.
