For more than six decades, the work of the Blood Center has had one central focus.

Saving lives.

Whenever people need blood, we’re here for them.

Maybe it’s for a trauma victim. Or for someone with cancer. Maybe it’s for a person who’s badly burned. Or for a heart surgery patient.

Of course, providing blood is only part of the story.

Our scientists do research so that we fundamentally understand the human body and how science can better serve it.

We also provide medical care to hundreds of patients with hemophilia, sickle cell disease, thalassemia and other blood disorders.

And we provide transplant laboratory services for people who need heart valves, kidneys, livers and other vital tissue and organs.

Clearly, our work is important and it truly saves lives.

But in a larger sense, we’re doing more than saving lives. We’re influencing lives for generations to come.

Say, for example, that a mother and father are in a car accident, receive transfusions and survive. It’s not only their lives that are affected, but their children’s lives as well.

Or when a child of ten has life-threatening cancer, has a stem cell transplant and survives. It’s not only her life that’s changed, but also the lives of all the people she’ll touch as she grows to be a woman.

Because of our work, birthdays will happen that wouldn’t otherwise occur. Couples will get married. Kids will grow taller. Friendships will be made. Proud parents will attend graduations. Athletes will perform amazing feats. Artists will create breathtaking works. Retirement parties will be celebrated.

The moments of our future are being created right now. By people who work at the Blood Center. By people who support it. By people like you.
