Cord Blood Program

How Do I Become a Cord Blood Donor?
Families interested in donating cord blood at one of the local collection sites have several options for enrollment, depending on the baby’s due date.

If the due date is three weeks away or more:

  • Contact the Cord Blood Program by email or phone to request an enrollment packet.
  • Complete the enrollment packet and bring it with you to the labor and delivery unit when you check-in.
  • Expect a call from the Cord Blood Program regarding your eligibility.
  • Upon arrival at the hospital on the big day, inform your nurse that you would like to donate your baby’s cord blood.
  • Complete and sign the update and consent form while at the hospital, to be sent with the cord blood.

If the due date is less than three weeks away:

  • Read the consent form for your delivering hospital, listed on the right.
  • Contact the Cord Blood Program by email or phone to discuss your eligibility.
  • Upon arrival at the hospital on the big day, let your nurse know that you would like to donate your baby’s cord blood.
  • Complete and sign the screening and consent form while at the hospital, to be sent with the cord blood.
  • Be aware that the Cord Blood Program may contact you for further questions within two days of the baby’s birth. These questions may take up to 15 minutes to complete.

If preferred, the Cord Blood Program Coordinator can be contacted and the screening can be scheduled to take place in person at Puget Sound Blood Center. Please try to contact the Cord Blood Program well before the end of your pregnancy.
