Uncrossmatched Group O red blood cells should only be ordered in extreme life threatening emergencies. Most hospitals stock uncrossmatched Group O red blood cells. Contact your hospital’s Blood Services Department. If your hospital does not stock uncrossmatched Group O red blood cells, immediately call the Compatibility Testing Laboratory at 206-292-6525 to initiate issuance of four units of uncrossmatched Group O red blood cells.
NOTE: Requires physician justification. Ordering physician must complete an Uncrossmatched Blood Justification form when uncrossmatched blood is released.
