Reptilase Time

Reptilase (a snake venom) is used to measure the rate of conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. The reptilase time is prolonged by hereditary or acquired fibrinogen abnormalities, elevated levels of fibrin/fibrinogen degradation products (FDP), and exogenous fibrinolytic agents, but is normal in the presence of heparin.

  • Sample Required: 0.5 ml frozen plasma x4 or (2) 3.2% sodium citrated tubes, 5 ml each.

  • Normal Range: < 23 sec
  • Analytic Time: Run infrequently; scheduling available on request
