Patients awaiting cadaveric transplantation periodically submit serum samples to the Immunogenetics Laboratory so that their HLA antibody levels (PRA) can be monitored, and so that a current serum sample is available in the laboratory. For patients awaiting kidney and / or pancreas transplantation, the samples are usually drawn at dialysis centers or at home, and sent to the Immunogenetics Laboratory in shipping containers provided by the laboratory.
Samples from patients on a quarterly screening schedule are assessed a specimen processing/storage fee (3085-00) when a sample is received but PRA tests are not performed.
- Specimen Required: 3-5 ml serum or 7-10 ml clotted blood
