All samples must be sent to the Blood Center in a sealed, leak-proof container marked with a biohazard sticker to comply with OSHA safety standards. Also mark "ATTN: HLS LAB".

* Patients with low wbc counts (<500) require larger volumes of blood. To determine the volume (ml) of blood required, divide 5,000 by the patient’s absolute wbc count.
- Anticoagulated blood may be drawn in ACD (solution A or B). (sodium heprin is also acceptable)
- Do not use lithium heparin or ACD solution C.
- Do not draw clotted samples in serum separator tubes.
- Do not refrigerate samples or place on ice.
- Samples should be sent to the Immunogenetics Laboratory immediately after drawing, and must arrive within 24 hours.
- Samples are accepted Sunday (if drawn on Sunday) through Friday.
