- CPT Code: To be determined by tests performed
This profile can be ordered for clinical scenarios that include:
- a patient with a decrease in hematocrit that is unexplained by bleeding and supporting laboratory values (LDH, indirect bilirubin, haptoglobin) are suggestive of hemolysis.
- a patient who is being monitored due to the presence of a red cell autoantibody or a hemolytic anemia.
Initial testing will be to repeat direct and indirect antiglobulin tests if the previous testing was non-reactive. The investigation may include an elution with PEG-IAT, antibody identification if required, common phenotyping and in rare cases, red cell separation if evidence of transfused cells is seen in the phenotyping.
- Sample Required: Two 7 mL EDTA
- Normal Test Values: Negative for hemolysis
- Analytic Time: Determined by the difficulty of the antibody identification. Preliminary results available within 24 hours
- Days Test is Set Up: Monday through Sunday
