Cytomegalovirus Antibody Screen (anti-CMV)

Anti-CMV is a passive latex agglutination test for the qualitative determination of total antibody to CMV in human serum and plasma. Samples reactive by this assay are considered positive for CMV while nonreactive samples are considered negative.

  • Sample Required: Clear, nonhemolyzed serum or heparin plasma, 7 ml clot preferred:

    Samples may be stored at 2-8°C up to 7 days. Samples frozen at -18°C or colder within this 7 day period are also acceptable for testing.

    Samples with obvious microbial contamination are not acceptable for testing.

    Plasma samples using anticoagulants other than heparin are not acceptable for testing.

  • Expected Results: Nonreactive or Reactive
  • Testing and Reporting:

    Testing is conducted 7 days a week.

    Reports for samples received Monday through Friday before 5:00 PM will generally be available by noon the following day. (If samples are received after 5:00 PM, the reports will be available by noon the second day after receipt).

    Reports for samples received Friday after 5:00 PM but before Sunday 2:00 PM will generally be available by noon Monday morning.

    Reports for samples received after 2:00 PM on Sunday will not be available until noon Tuesday morning.
