These tests are Nucleic Acid tests for the detection of HCV, HIV –1, and HBV virus and for West Nile Virus. The assays are only approved for use with plasma specimens from individual human donors (including donors of whole blood and blood components, source plasma and other living donors) and are not licensed for use as a diagnostic assay for patient testing.
Testing is conducted on individual donor specimens. When HCV/HIV/HBV NAT is ordered, HCV, HIV and HBV are tested together. Therefore, it is not possible to order one assay without the other. WNV testing is ordered and performed by itself.
- Sample Required: One 7 ml EDTA for HCV/HIV/HBV NAT; one 7 mL EDTA for WNV NAT
Samples should be stored for no longer than 5 days at a combination of room temperature (≤ 25°C) and at 2-8°C. This 5 day period should include no more than 3 days at room temperature.
EDTA tubes must be submitted unopened; Aliquots should not be submitted.
Performance has not been established on cadaveric samples for HBV or WNV NAT.
- Expected Results: Nonreactive
- Testing and Reporting:
Testing is conducted 7 days a week.
