Hepatitis B Core Antibody Screen (anti-HBc)

This test is an enzyme immunoassay for the qualitative determination of total antibody to hepatitis B virus core antigen (anti-HBc) in human serum or plasma.

  • Sample Required: Clear, nonhemolyzed serum or plasma, 7 ml clot preferred.

    Samples may be stored at 2-8°C for a maximum of 7 days. Samples frozen at -10°C or colder within 7 days are also acceptable for testing.

    Lipemic samples and samples containing fibrin or precipitate may give inconsistent results.

    Heat inactivated samples, samples containing sodium azide, and samples with obvious microbial contamination are not acceptable for testing.

  • Expected Results: Nonreactive
  • Testing and Reporting:

    Testing is conducted 7 days a week.

    Reports for samples received Monday through Friday before 5:00 PM will generally be available by noon the following day. (If samples are received after 5:00 PM, the reports will be available by noon the second day after receipt).

    Reports for samples received Friday after 5:00 PM but before Sunday 2:00 PM will generally be available by noon Monday morning.

    Reports for samples received after 2:00 PM on Sunday will not be available until noon Tuesday morning.
