Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 and Type 2 Antibody Screen (anti-HIV-1/-2)

This test is an enzyme immunoassay for the qualitative detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 and/or Type 2 in human serum or plasma. Samples reactive for anti-HIV-1/-2 by this screen will be confirmed at additional charge.

  • Sample Required: Clear, nonhemolyzed serum or plasma, 7 ml clot preferred.

    Samples may be stored at 2-8°C for a maximum of 14 days. Samples frozen at -20°C during this period are acceptable for testing.

    Samples containing precipitate may give inconsistent results.

    Performance has not been established on cadaveric samples.

    Heat inactivated samples or samples with obvious microbial contamination are unacceptable for testing.

  • Expected Results: Nonreactive
  • Testing and Reporting:

Testing is conducted 7 days a week.

Reports for samples received Monday through Friday before 5:00 PM will generally be available by noon the following day. (If samples are received after 5:00 PM, the reports will be available by noon the second day after receipt.

Reports for samples received Friday after 5:00 PM but before Sunday 2:00 PM will generally be available by noon Monday morning.

Reports for samples received after 2:00 PM on Sunday will not be available until noon Tuesday morning.
