Puget Sound Blood Center donors are volunteers
from the community—volunteers who
give blood without receiving monetary compensation.
They donate blood because they
want to help others.
Prior to donation, Blood Center staff screens
the medical and social histories of these
blood donors to ensure that they are healthy
and to identify any who are at increased risk
of transmitting infectious diseases. Donors
who do not pass this thorough screening are
deferred from donating blood.
After it is collected, the blood is sent to the
Blood Center laboratory where various
screening tests are performed.
The Blood Center’s first responsibility is to
ensure an adequate supply of blood for
patients in our region. |
