Thank you to all the swimmers and volunteers who helped to make the Tenth Annual Swim for Life across Lake Washington a success. The event, benefiting Puget Sound Blood Center, took place Wednesday, August 8, 2007. Arriving to a cool breeze blowing along the eastern shores of Lake Washington, swimmers eased into the water and headed to Madison Beach, their final destination on the lake’s western side, with a small flotilla of boats in tow.
The swim is about 2.25 miles across Lake Washington and depending on individual swimming speeds, the crossing took swimmers between two and three hours to complete.
Swim for Life is organized by Scott Leopold, a passionate donor who decided to swim solo from Medina, across Lake Washington, to Husky Stadium in an effort to raise awareness of blood donation in 1993. Based on the attention he received for the cause, he invited others to join him on what has become an annual swim.
