New Researchers Join the Blood Center

Barbara Konkle, MD and Timothy Watkins, MD, M.Sc have both recently joined the Blood Center’s Research Division.

Dr. Konkle is a hematologist who joins the Blood Center most recently from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. At the Blood Center, Dr. Konkle’s efforts will primarily be focused on translational research in clotting and bleeding disorders, while also supervising the hemostasis laboratory. In addition, Dr. Konkle will participate in the clinical and academic activities of the Hematology Division of the University of Washington’s Department of Medicine.

Dr. Watkins comes to the Blood Center from the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division of University of Washington Department of Medicine. In addition to his medical training, Dr. Watkins is trained in Epidemiology. His scientific interests include the storage lesion of red blood cells and how it might affect clinical outcomes in trauma patients.
