FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Donating blood during Independence Day is the perfect way to honor and recognize those serving overseas
JUNE 17, 2004, SEATTLE — Though the Fourth of July holiday is a time to share memorable times with loved ones, we shouldn’t forget that people in our community still depend on blood donations to survive. With the holiday rapidly approaching, Puget Sound Blood Center reminds the community that making a blood donation is the ultimate way to both recognize Independence Day and save a life.
“There is no better way to commemorate the sacrifice and effort of the men and women serving their country overseas than by making a lifesaving blood donation during the July 4th holiday,” said Steve McLean, Blood Center spokesman. “Donating blood takes only an hour of your time and has the potential to save up to three lives.”
Since the holiday this year is on a Sunday, two Blood Center branches will be open. The Lynnwood facility will be open for both whole blood and apheresis collections and the Seattle Central facility will be open for apheresis collections only, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Special treats will be served in the Blood Center canteen in recognition of this holiday. Bring a family member or a friend and make it possible to help up to six patients. Check individual centers for hours of operation the week preceding and following July 4. Those interested in making a donation can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-398-7888.
