Blood Center Leader Receives American Association of Blood Banks Chapman Franzmeier Memorial Award
OCTOBER 15, 2005, SEATTLE WA — Puget Sound Blood Center congratulates our own Maria Elena Geyer, recipient of American Association of Blood Banks’ Chapman Franzmeier Memorial Award. Geyer, Vice President of Donor Services at Puget Sound Blood Center, receives the award in recognition of her exceptional leadership in the area of donor recruitment. Her leadership qualities and willingness to share expertise are representative of the Blood Center’s mission. We congratulate her on this distinguished accomplishment.
Puget Sound Blood Center was the first Blood Center in the country to do research and today we are internationally recognized as a research leader, partnering with universities all over the world. The Blood Center is also a leader in the area of donor recruitment. We are applying the same professional principles we used to pioneer our research program and our successful strategies are being leveraged throughout the United States, enhancing the effective recruitment of blood donors nationwide.
This week Seattle welcomes over 6,000 blood banking professionals and blood research leaders from around the world. American Association of Blood Banks, a not-for-profit association dedicated to the advancement of the science and practice of transfusion medicine, sponsors the conference.
AABB is an international organization consisting of nearly 1,800 institutions and 8,000 individuals located throughout the United States and in 80 countries. Their mission is “to advance the practice and standards of transfusion medicine and related biological therapies.” Members include physicians, scientists, medical technologists, nurses, researchers, administrators, blood donor recruiters and public relations personnel.
