Cole
The first sign Kristian noticed was how many bruises her son Cole had and how long it took them to heal. She decided to consult with her family doctor who, upon suspecting Cole had hemophilia, immediately referred her to Puget Sound Blood Center.
Hailey
In the summer of 2003, Hailey fell from an old rope swing onto a rocky creek bed and almost lost her life, suffering from massive internal bleeding. “I wasn’t going to make it,” she explains, “if I didn’t get some blood transfusions.”
Kristal
“The doctors said that if this had happened in a different era, I wouldn’t be here today,” Kristal recalls. Complications during the birth of her third child caused Kristal to loose a large volume of blood. Kristal’s surgery team was able to stop the bleeding after consultation with physicians at Puget Sound Blood Center.
Matt
Matt experienced pain in his right leg, but figured it wasn’t unusual for a 19-year-old basketball player. Then one October morning, he couldn’t move the leg. Surgery revealed a genetic defect resulting in damage to his knee, something his doctor had never seen. After seven months of searching for a solution they found one at the Northwest Tissue Services.
Monique
At 17, a terrible car accident forever changed Monique’s life. She lost more than half her blood from her injuries. Today, Monique is thriving. She explains, “I wouldn’t be here today if people hadn’t donated to Puget Sound Blood Center.”
Nancy
Nancy’s had 40-plus surgeries, many requiring blood. “Her determination is remarkable,” says her mother, Betty, about Nancy’s ability to bounce back. Nancy cites her mom as a prime reason.
Reid
Reid was diagnosed with hemophilia at birth and has been relying on the Blood Center for medical care and education his entire life. “It takes thousands of donations to allow a baby with hemophilia to grow up to be a man,” he says.
Rosalie
Shawna took her infant daughter Rosalie in for her six-month checkup. She had noticed over the preceding weeks that Rosalie had had some spontaneous bruising all over her body. When she mentioned this to the doctor they were immediately sent for a blood draw. That evening the doctor called tell us his suspicion was Rosalie had leukemia.
Sam
Sam has sickle cell anemia and has traveled over three hundred miles every six weeks to receive treatment at the Blood Center. He knows that the transfusions he receives are life-altering and is enjoying life with your support.
Travis
Travis has a genetic blood disorder and gets monthly transfusions at the Blood Center. Though he will need these transfusions for the rest of his life, he doesn’t complain. He gets his energy from your donations. And he knows they are saving his life.
